When Jasper first arrives on the ground, he's kind of an easy-going sort who's a bit of a 'stoner' type. He's good natured and friendly, and even rather cheerful. This, however, doesn't last long. After he's speared by the grounders and nearly dies from his wounds, Jasper develops a bit of PTSD, making him afraid for a long while to even leave the Camp.
After opening fire at the Grounders at the bridge (and destroying Finn's hopes of peace), he receives brief hero status, but the incident wasn't necessarily healthy. Jasper later says that he "panicked", and we're probably looking a bit more at his PTSD here.
Jasper's personality really starts developing in Season 2, when he finds himself trapped at Mount Weather. At first, he's really pleased to be there, enjoying the food and the clothes, and the apparent safety of the place. He starts developing feelings for a girl there - Maya Vie - and thinks he might even have a chance to be happy. When that's proven to be a chimera, Jasper shows his bravery and strength by taking control of the 47 still in Mount Weather. He leads them to resist the scientists wanting to kill them for their bone marrow, and with Bellamy's help, fights back against them, even winning the first round.
In the end, the 47 are rescued, but only after Clarke and Bellamy are forced to irradiate all of Mount Weather, killing everyone within (including Maya). Jasper is devastated, and furious at Clarke for taking such drastic measures when there might have been another way. He will likely be furious with her for some time.

History
Jasper was born on The Ark and was best friends with Monty Green. At some point before his crime, Jasper attended a Masquerade dance with his friends where he first saw Octavia Blake.
He was arrested along with his best friend, Monty Green, for stealing herbs from the Ark garden and sent to juvenile lockup. Jasper is aGunner for the Delinquents against theWoods Clan. Jasper also serves as the primary chemist for the 100's time on Earth.
Jasper battles PTSD that developed after he was speared in the chest in Pilot. This has continued on throughout the second season. He was initially supposed to be a minor character that died in the Pilot but his fate was changed due to the cast and crew liking his character so much.
While inside Mount Weather, Jasper became dependent on the Mountain Men, believing they have the Delinquents' best interests at heart. When Jasper learns the truth, however, he is determined to save his people and leave Mount Weather, becoming a leader for the Delinquents trapped inside.
